Does Horse Intuition Exist? Read the Following to Find Out!
Horse intuition is not something that can be proved. It has to be experienced.
Horse Intuition is real to me because my first horse encounter proved it. This is what happened:
Growing up in New Growing up in New York City, I wasn’t familiar with horses, much less horse intuition. The only horses I saw were in Central Park where people rented a “horse and buggy”, or occasionally with a police man riding it. To me, they were huge, and they scared me.
Now, decades later, I am an artist living in Tucson, loving and painting horses! Here’s how I got there:
I live next door to an equestrian center. When I first moved to Tucson, I didn’t pay much attention to the horse center. But after awhile, my curiosity got the best of me, but finally I sauntered down the hill to ask the owner of Horse Haven if I could visit the horses. She agreed. Knowing this was my first encounter with horses, she gave me some tips on how to interact with them. She explained that horses are intuitive, and sense if they can trust someone. She told me not to be afraid, because they would know.
Most of the horses were outside in their paddocks. Timidly, I carefully approached one of the animals who stood about ten feet from the fence. I talked sweetly to him, and he came close to the fence, as if he wanted to visit with me. I was a little nervous to get close to an animal ten times my size, but I trusted he had the intuition to know I was not a threat, so I moved closer to him.
Fortunately, I had some carrots chunks with me. Holding them in the palm of my hand held flat and palm-side-up, I lifted my gift up to the top of the fence. He lowered his head, and with his soft lips and nose touching me, he ate all the carrots!
I wish I could describe the feeling I had that day. Pure joy! I gently rubbed his soft, velvety nose several times. He loved it, and kept coming back for more. I was thrilled, and fell in love with him instantly.

Soon, the other horses in his paddock followed their intuition, moving closer, wanting their noses rubbed also! Unknowingly this gentle generous giant created a magical experience for me, which I will always treasure. For me, the connection with him was spiritual I like to believe there is an invisible unfathomable thread that connects every living thing in the universe. Horses, with their intuition, give us a glimpse of that. (link)
Now, I frequently take short breaks from my work as an artist in my studio, to visit my equine friends. Some are friendlier than others, but there are always others who want to visit and have their noses rubbed. They love it! For me, it’s pure bliss!
This experience has had a profound impact on my view of life, its purpose, and the integration of all beings of life.
Horses, being prey animals, are intuitive by nature. Their heightened sense of awareness alerts them of coming danger. Horses have acute hearing, eyesight, touch, and smell, along with extreme sensitivity to the slightest movement nearby. A horse’s protection from danger is awareness, intuition, and the instinct to flee immediately. (They don’t, like humans do, analyze, and plan to run or stay and fight, they just run instantly from danger.)
The Horse-Human Connection
Horse intuition is at work when a human is near. The horse can sense our emotions and intentions. If we are afraid, then they are afraid. They will bolt, or if tethered, will be uncooperative and extremely upset, making them dangerous. (In my “moment of “bliss” with my first horse visit, his horse intuition told him I was O.K.) Intuition is a huge factor in the healing energy horses have with humans. (Link)
Professional horse healing centers around the world help the disabled.
Autistic children, war veterans suffering from PTSD, paraplegics, people with various addictions, and other mental and physical disorders experience profound emotional healing from horses. In many cases, horse intuition leads to physical healing.
Other animals have intuition also.
Anyone who has had a close relationship with a dog, cat, or any other animal, has experienced a deep, nonverbal communication that is a mutual understanding of something. It’s almost as if you and the animal are of one mind.
They know I’m leaving.
For example, when I am preparing for a trip out of town, my dogs know it even before I take my suitcases out to pack. I think they know I’m printing out my “travel list” from the computer, because when its printing, they curl up in a corner as if to get ready to wait until I get back! When the suitcase is out and I’m packing, they start pacing by the garage door. (I’m sure my dogs have “horse intuition”!)
I Believe in Horse Intuition
I believe there is an invisible unfathomable thread that connects every living thing in the universe. Horse intuition gives us a glimpse of that. I like to contemplate there is an invisible unfathomable thread that connects every living thing in the universe. Horses, with their intuition, give us a glimpse of that.
From Albert Einstein:
“Everything is determined, the beginning as well as the end, by forces over which we have no control. It is determined for the insects, as well as the stars, human beings, vegetables or cosmic dust – we all dance to a mysterious tune, intoned in the distance by an invisible piper.” — Albert Einstein.
Enjoy your animals! They love you! They are a gift!
