With all the chaos and corruption we hear on the news, we can get discouraged and think, “There are so many problems in the world. What can little ole’ me do?” I believe that if each one of us is kind and generous, even to people we don’t like, we can make a difference.
How One Man Makes a Difference
This reminds me of a story: A man is walking along a beach littered with thousands of starfish the tide brought in. The sun was bright and hot. The star fish were dying. The man was picking them up, one at a time and throwing them back in the sea. Someone saw him and said, “Why waste your time? It’s hopeless. The tides will continue to bring more in to die. It doesn’t make a difference. ” The man, holding up a starfish, looked at his critic and said, “it makes a difference to this one,” and threw it into the life-giving sea.
Your Smile is a Bright Light
When I feel like I’m not doing enough to make a difference, I think of the starfish and realize that even one bright smile to one stranger today IS making a difference — to that one stranger!
Take the High Road. It makes a difference.
